Smart Design, a design and innovation consulting firm based in New York recently hosted a cannabis culture ‘makeathon’ in New York for designers, creators, innovators, and strategists to explore opportunities in the growing Cannabis industry. With the guidance from industry coaches, participants formed small teams to develop business strategies and prototypes based on the theme: ‘A New Way of Life for People Dealing with Chronic Pain through Medical Cannabis’. The results were presented at the Smart Design event to a panel of judges, and Justin, our Maven co-founder, and his team came up with winning team concept; which was a service supported by a digital platform. The service would simplify patient access to medical marijuana and help build personalized and meaningful connections between patients and caregivers.
The cannabis industry is currently worth $5.7 billion and expected to top $20 billion in annual revenue by 2020 as a result of spreading legalization in the US. (The Arcview Group) There are now big opportunities in the cannabis space both for medical and recreational use and it is becoming increasingly acceptable in mainstream society, with the number of new users steadily increasing. This means great opportunities for designers, who can find solutions to unanswered needs.
Maven is ready to tap into the unanswered needs of the cannabis industry and design solutions for new users. We invite entrepreneurs and larger firms to explore these opportunities with us. We’re excited about the product design possibilities in the growing cannabis industry, as it loses its traditional underground stigma and appeals to a wider diverse group. With this greater diversity comes a whole new world of opportunity for potential users of all ages, both for recreational and medicinal use.
We want to thank Smart Design for hosting such an engaging and informative event! We're honored to have participated.
